Howard "Ray" Smith, age 85 of Henrietta, died Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born June 2, 1930 in Rutherford County, he was the son to the late Charlie C. Smith and Eliza Rebecca Davis Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He worked as an independent carpet layer and drapery installer for many years. Ray was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching Westerns.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David Ray Smith and two sisters, Ruth Watson and Joyce Kimbrell.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Haynes of Cliffside and Patricia Hill of Henrietta; one brother, Mike Smith of Forest City; two sisters, Grace Ruppe and Nancy Wall both of Forest City. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Reverend Bob Philbeck officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
