Howard Vincent Carpenter Jr

Howard Vincent Carpenter Jr age 75, died Saturday March 7,2015 at Carolinas Healthcare-Cleveland after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Vince was born in Lincoln County on August 5th 1939 to his parents, Howard Vincent Carpenter and Rachel Thomas Carpenter. He grew up in Shelby where he met, and is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lynn Lutz Carpenter. They both attended Shelby High School and were high school sweethearts. Vince graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College in 1961. Vince was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He began his career with C & S Furniture Store, a family business, and later worked for Carolina Container Corporation, Fox Distributors, and Western Southern Life. Vince was a scratch golfer and classic car enthusiast. Many a weekend he spent preparing for his next tournament or working on a classic Corvette or Mustang.

In addition to his wife, Vince is survived by his son Vincent Todd Carpenter and his wife Lisa of Shelby; two daughters, Margot Todd and her husband Delk of Charlotte, Leanne Carpenter of Shelby, two sisters, Frankie Hicks of Shelby and Linda Triplett and her husband Larry of Shelby, two brothers, Bill Carpenter of Shelby and Johnny Carpenter and his wife Taffy of Fallston; four grandchildren, Emily Carpenter Magee and her husband Michael, Will Carpenter, Andrew and David Todd; and one great grandchild, Jackson Magee.

The family will receive friends at Cecil M Burton Funeral Home and Crematory from 5:00 To 6:30 PM on Monday, March 9, 2015. Vince will be cremated and remembered in a private ceremony at a later date. The family is grateful for condolences, would like to express their appreciation to the staff at White Oak Manor, and asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to; Central United Methodist Church, 200 East Marion Street, Shelby NC 28150 or Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive Charlotte, NC 28215 or Donor's Choice.
