Hugh Sylvester Wright

Mr. Hugh Sylvester Wright, age 89 of Shelby, NC, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Monday, February 2, 2015, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 2:30 pm Friday, February 6, 2015, at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel conducted by Rev. John M. Billinsky, Jr., MD. A visitation will be held from 12:30 - 2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Ross Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Violet Luvinia (Greene) Wright, three children, David Wright of Zebulon, NC, Linda Cabiness and husband John of Lattimore, NC, and Kyrin Billinsky and husband Dr. John M. Billinsky, Jr. of Shelby, NC, a grandson, Carson Cabiness and wife Daphne of Lattimore, NC, a great granddaughter, Addison Cabiness, two brothers, Winslow Wright Jr. and wife Edna of Shelby, NC, and Aaron Alexander "Bud" Wright of Fallston, NC, a sister, LaVerne Wright of Fallston, NC, and sixteen special nieces and nephews.

Born February 17, 1925, in Cleveland County, Mr. Wright was the son of the late Moses Winslow Wright Sr., and Georgia Lee (Hayes) Wright and was preceded in death by his first wife, Verdie Lee (Ledford) Wright, two brothers, Odus Andrew Wright and James Clarence Wright, seven sisters, Velma Frances Wright, Eva Laura Wright, Alma Freeman, Clara Mae Wright, Bessie Bridges, Beulah Jean Blanton and Nancy Lee King, and a sister-in-law, Margaret Diana Wright.

After graduating from Fallston High School, Hugh served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After an honorable discharge, he went into farming and then later worked for Fredrickson Motor Express as a supervisor. He loved helping others, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, the hospital ICU, and anyone that needed assistance. He loved music especially studying guitar with Ray Ledford and learning the mountain dulcimer, playing tennis, hunting, fishing, training dogs, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.
