Iola Bridges Dillingham

Mrs. Iola Bridges Dillingham, 81, of 1839 E. Marion St. Shelby, NC formerly of 502 Suttle St. in Shelby departed this life and transitioned up to the Pearly Gates on Monday, January 26, 2015 at home. She was born on April 7, 1933 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Anthony and Bell Youngblood Bridges.

She attended Cleveland School for 12 years and graduated in 1951.

Iola was a very dedicated member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Shelby. She participated in many different ministries at Mount Calvary. One of her greatest talents was singing. She sang on multiple choirs at Mount Calvary and with other choirs and groups in Cleveland County. Anyone who knew her admired her beautiful voice. She also put her heart and soul into the Community Soup Kitchen, a ministry she started that provides meals to individuals and families who are struggling and having a hard time. She aspired to help everyone in need and to help bring others closer to God. Iola was also involved in many other church ministries throughout the years such as the Seniors on the Move where she made many strong connections with other members of her church family. She really loved her Mount Calvary church family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Dillingham; a daughter, Loretta Dillingham; her brothers, Calvin Bridges, Ulysses Bridges and Billy Gene Bridges and two sisters, Ruth Gidney and Ruby Bridges.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Floyd Bridges (Janice) of Shelby, Eddie "Duck" Dillingham of Charlotte, NC, Latonya Littlejohn (Frederick) of Shelby, Tyron Dillingham of

Garner, NC and Wayne Davis (Cassandra) of Shelby; two sisters, Connie Mae Surratt and Shirley Bridges both of Shelby; one brother, Otha Lee Bridges of Charlotte, NC; ten grandchildren, Kjuana Diggs of Charlotte, NC, Eric Lockhart of Shelby, Laya Smith (Tyson) of Edmond, OK, David Middlebrook (Dana) of Knoxville, TN, Travis Littlejohn of Raleigh, NC, Bradley Porter Haynes of Asheville, NC, Likima Middlebrook of Arlington, VA and Alia Dillingham of Detroit, MI, Mariah Littlejohn of Shelby and Brook Gilbert of Raleigh, NC; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Jessie Dillingham and Vernesa Dillingham; special nieces, Janie Stevens, Nadine Lipscomb and Cynthia London; special friends, Rev. Lillie Mae Smith, Flora Mae Hopper and Daisy Littlejohn and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor M. Lamont Littlejohn officiating. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM until 3:00 PM on Saturday and at other times at the home.
