J.B. and Naomi Edwards Newton, of East Stagecoach Trail, died February 29, 2016 at Carolina Medical Center-Cleveland.

Mr. Newton was born on March 3, 1941 in Cleveland County, a son of the late J. Z. and Marie Scism Newton. He was a driver for A.V. Dedmon Trucking in Shelby for over 40 years. Mrs. Newton was born October 22, 1939 in Cleveland County, a daughter of the late Gilbert Willard and Essie Howard Edwards. She was a homemaker who enjoyed flowers, canning and reading. They were members of St. Paul's Baptist Church and were married for over 50 years.

They are survived by two children, Bruce Edward Newton and wife, Lynn of Mooresboro, and Denise Newton Melton and husband, Terry of Ellenboro; grandchildren, Anna Marie Poddar and husband, Banibrata of Columbia, SC., Jacob Melton of Charlotte, Jonathan and Connor Newton of Mooresboro. They were preceded in death by an infant daughter, Melanie Ann Newton.

J.B. is also survived by sisters, Lucille Greene and husband, James of Fallston and Barbara Parker and husband, Bobby of Casar; brother, Paul Newton and wife Glenda of Gastonia. He is preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Morrison.

Naomi is also survived by two brothers, Gilbert Edwards and wife Ruth of Polkville, Newell Edwards and wife, Shirley of Rock Hill; two sisters, Jane Adams of Cherryville and Mae Grigg of Newton.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 4, 2016 at 4:00 PM at St. Paul's Baptist Church, Casar with Rev. Keith Fulbright officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. Family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall Friday, 2:00-3:45 PM.
