Jack Dewayne Thompson, age 85, died Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Carolinas Medical Center in Lincolnton. Born in Mobile, Alabama on January 9, 1932 he was the son of the late Medrick and Dorothy Mae Cartwright Thompson. He retired from Webb Chemical and Paper as a driver. He retired from the U. S. Army after serving in the Vietnam Conflict and the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by two brothers; and a sister.

Jack is survived by his wife of 60 years Rhader Carolyn Ledford Thompson; a daughter, Ester McDaniel and husband Reid of Morganton; two sisters, Lou Stokes of Pascagoula MS. and Gene Stuart and husband William of Pascagoula, MS.; a brother, Bobby Thompson and wife Doris of Pascagoula, MS.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 2, 2017 in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, with Military Honors. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.
