Jack Ramseur Logan
      Jack Ramseur Logan, 85, of 818 East Graham Street, Shelby, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 21 at 9:35pm at his home. 

     Jack Logan, though living in Rock Hill, South Carolina until age 13 has resided in Shelby since 1939.

     He was the son of Benjamin Franklin Logan, Jr. and Lillie Hogue Logan and descended from some of Cleveland County’s earliest settlers.  His great, great, great, grandfather,William Logan, was a patriot militiaman at the Battle of Kings Mountain in the Revolutionary War. 

     Jack’s great-grandfather, John Randolph Logan, surveyed and lay off the streets of Shelby and Gaffney, while selling the earliest residential tracts in Shelby.

     Jack Logan was a well-known Shelby merchant.  He operated florists and a lovely interior design and home furnishings store, Holly House Interiors, in partnership with his wife, Marilyn, for more than forty years.  The Logan’s decorated and directed many weddings and receptions throughout the area from 1953 until 1995. Their friends became their customers and their customers became their friends.

     Jack Logan was educated in Rock Hill schools, mainly Winthrop Training elementary school and graduated Shelby High School.  He attended Gardner-Webb and was a member of the first football team there in 1947-1948.  He studied floristry and that became his vocation. 

     Jack was an early member of Shelby Jaycees and Shelby Kiwanis Club for almost 50 years where he served on the board.  He was also an avid golfer with membership at the Cleveland Country Club for almost a half century.

     Jack served proudly in the United States Navy for three years in World War II as a radar operator.  One of his fondest moments was attending the World War II memorial in Washington, DC some months ago.

     Jack was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Ben Hogue Logan, David Franklin Logan, Col. William Joshua Logan; sisters, Lillian Logan Washburn, and Sarah Logan King.  There are numerous nephews and nieces throughout the South.  John Hogue Gjelhaug has been a most caring nephew.

     Mr. Logan is survived by his loving wife of almost sixty-two years, Marilyn Elliott Logan and by his beloved daughter, Angela Logan Lee and cherished grandson, Dylan Patric Lee, son-in-law, David Keith Lee of Danville, Kentucky, and one sister Marianne Logan Walker.  Other care givers include a special friend, Mrs. Rosetta Mitchell, night staff of caregivers, Debra Shook, Laurie Mercer, Sandra Bowen, Kathy Auton and devoted hospice nurses.  The family expresses special appreciation to Dr. Caunt, Dr. Thompson, Dr. Gossett, and the Hospice Staff.

     Services for Mr. Logan will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, June 24, 2011 at Central United Methodist Church sanctuary.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00pm in the church parlor prior to the service.  The Rev. Craig Langston will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.

     Memorial may be given to Central United Methodist Church, 200 East Marion St, Shelby NC 28150 or Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby NC 28150.
