Jack Wellmon
Jack Wellmon, 83, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Hospice Cleveland County Wendover.  A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Henry and Maude Wellmon.  He was also preceded in death by four brothers; Clay Wellmon, Thurman Wellmon, Everette Wellmon and Worth Wellmon; and sister, Aileen Hamrick.  Mr. Wellmon enjoyed golf, reading, and working around his house – especially in his work shop.  He loved his church and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. 

Mr. Wellmon is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mattie Hunt Wellmon; daughters, Jackie Hamrick and husband Ronnie of Shelby and Sandra Morrison and husband Charlie of Shelby; grandchildren, Staff Sgt. Matthew Queen and wife Amber of Shelby, Phillip Queen and wife Angel of Shelby, Carly Morrison, Dylan Morrison, and Megan Morrison, all of Shelby; four great grandchildren, Makayla, Kaitlyn, Jackson and Madison Queen; and a beloved friend and caregiver, Melissa Porter.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.  Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park with full military honors.  The Rev. Jared Pankhurst will be officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home.  At other times the family will be at the home.

Memorials may be given to Lily Memorial Baptist Church, 406 Whitener Street, Shelby, NC 28152 or to the Disabled American Veterans, 1138 E. Marion Street, Shelby, NC 28150.
