Mr. Byers served our country in the U.S. Army in the 2nd and 8th Air Calvary in Vietnam. During his service, 1969-1970, he received two Bronze Stars for Valor an Purple Heart for being wounded in action.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hoyle Anderson Byers and Grace Rochester Byers.

He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Elizabeth Ann Ledbetter Byers; 1 step-daughter, Amanda Hudson of Fallston; 1 granddaughter; 1 brother, Steve Byers of Grover; and 2 sisters, Lucille Tesseneer and husband Bobby of Polkville, and Kathy Thomas and husband Dale of Hickory.
