Gaffney -- James Dean Mullinax, Sr, 68, of 872 McKowns Mountain Rd, passed away on Thursday, September 10th, 2026, at his home.

Born in Gaffney, he was the son of the late Lewis Carl and Gladys Thompson Mullinax. Before his retirement, he worked in housekeeping for Cherokee County and the Cherokee County School District.

He is survived by his two sons, James Mullinax Jr. and Jason Mullinax; four grandchildren: Lewis Mullinax, Anna Mullinax, Monique Spencer, and Austin Bryson; three sisters: Idell Mullinax, Betty Mullinax, and Gloria Acrey; and three sisters-in-law: Linda, Elizabeth, and Mary Mullinax.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mullinax was preceded in death by four brothers: William Thomas "Jabo" Mullinax, Jimmy Wayne Mullinax, John Amos Mullinax, and Paul Mullinax; a sister, Sally Mullinax; and three brothers-in-law: Harold Dean Mullinax, Mitchell Mullinax, and Clyde Acrey.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 15th, 2026, from 2:00-3:00pm at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 3:00pm with Rev. Tommy Wright officiating.
