James Devonia "JD" Gibson

Blacksburg -- James Devonia "JD" Gibson, 78, of 104 West Carolina Street, passed away Friday, October 13th, 2017, at his home.

Born in Shelby, NC, he was the husband of Frances Peterson Gibson and the son of the late Olin D. Gibson and Tricola Rippy Gibson. Mr. Gibson retired as a Truck Driver for Metromont and JD Brown and was a member of Cherokee Falls Baptist Church. Mr. Gibson was a lifelong fishing enthusiast.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Gibson is survived by one son, Wayne Gibson and wife, Christy, of Blacksburg; one daughter, Rita Wilson and husband, Larry, of Blacksburg; eight grandchildren, Cierra Sutson, Halee Gibson, Kelsey Gibson, Kacy Starnes, Chris Trusty, Pam Elmore, Gloria Harris, and Dean Wilson; and five great-grandchildren, Ayden Trusty, Ada Harris, Ronald Garner, Whitney Wilson, and Hayden Wilson.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 15th, 2017, from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary, 400 West Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, South Carolina 29702. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 16th, 2017 at 11:00 am at Gordon Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Tim Knotts and Rev. Lucky Earls officiating. Interment will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens. Steve Peterson, Brian Tindall, Dean Wilson, Dennis Gibson, Scott Gibson, and Chris Trusty will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

The family will be at the residence.
