James Edward “Jim” Borders, Jr.

Mr. James Edward “Jim” Borders, Jr. 85, of 1103 Stanton Drive Shelby, NC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 13, 2014 in Shelby.  He was born on January 23, 1929 in Cleveland County, NC to the late James Edward Borders, Sr. and the late Maybell Moss Borders.

Mr. Borders graduated from Cleveland High School in Shelby and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from N.C. A & T State University and later acquired his Master’s Degree there as well.  He served his country in the United States Army from October 30, 1952 to October 29, 1954.

Mr. Borders was retired from the Cleveland County School System, where he began his career in education as a teacher and later became an Assistant Principal, spanning over 37 years.  He was a longtime member of Shiloh Baptist Church and a dedicated member of the SWATTO Club.

He was a committed family man and devoted husband, father and brother.  He loved his granddaughters and cherished all their accomplishments.  He loved his friends, meeting new people, working in the garden and smoking his pipe.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mae Francina Bowers Borders and two brothers, Charles William Borders and John Nelson Borders.

Left to cherish fond memories of him are his wife of 45 years, Bennie Borders; his daughter, Francina Ann Jones; his son, James Edward “Jimmy” Borders, III all of Shelby; two brothers, Joseph Borders (Lena Mae) of Shelby and Robert Lewis Borders of Greensboro, NC; a special nephew who was raised like a brother, Martin Larry Borders of Greensboro, NC; four sisters, Clara Davis, Betty Jean Manuel, Jennie Lee Borders Camp (Henry) and Lillian Catherine Herring (Thomas) all of Shelby; two grandchildren, Diamond Jaye Jones of Raleigh, NC and Jasmine Andricka Borders of Shelby; two sisters-in-law, Darlena Faulkner of Charlotte, NC and Rose Borders of Shelby; three brothers-in-law, Paul Faulkner (Mary) and Keith Faulkner (Verdair) both of Charlotte and Kenny Faulkner (Gloria) of Winston-Salem, NC; special friends, Dan Jolly and Eugene Webber both of Shelby and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church with Pastor Danté  Murphy officiating.  Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church on Monday and other times at the home.  The family would like to thank and acknowledge his brother-in-law, Henry Camp for all the devotion, care and support that he gave to him.
