James Frank Hill

Mr. James Frank Hill, 91, passed away on May 31, 2016 at Piedmont Medical Center after a lengthy stay at The Spring Arbor Assisted Living Center.
Born on March 25, 1925 in Cleveland County, Mr. Hill was the son of the late Bynum Sylvanus Hill and Minnie Caroline Akins. He attended Cleveland County schools and was left an orphan at a young age. James worked as a farm hand until reaching an age to perform public work. He worked various jobs in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama including FA Tucker Electrical Contractors, Pike Electric Company, Blue Ridge Electric, Southern and Seaboard Railroads, Carolina Tree Company, Rock Hill Printing, and Finishing Company, and Winthrop College. At Winthrop College, he worked with campus security and custodial services before retiring in 1977 due to health problems.
He was a long time member of the Lesslie Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of Catawba Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and van driver for many years. James loved working in his garden and deep sea fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Austin, Alvin, Ervin, Bynum Sylvanus Jr.; sisters: Mae Peters, Willie Owens, Elsie Cooper and Pearl Bridges. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sara Elliott Hill; sons: James E. Hill (Carolyn) of Polkville, NC; Larry E. Hill of Rock Hill, SC; and Timothy W. Hill (Gina) of Fort Mill, SC; and a sister, Mary Crotts of Shelby, NC; grandchildren: Kendall Hill Shue of Rockwell, NC; Hunter Hill and Ashley Hill of Fort Mill, SC.
A graveside service will be held at the Elliott Family Cemetery, Polkville, NC on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Ron Richardson will preside.
