Mr. James H. Parker, Sr., 89, of 185 Otto Rd. passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013 at Hospice at Wendover.

Mr. Parker was born on December 12, 1924 in Rockingham, NC a son of the late Roy Parker and Ruth Sneed Parker.  He formerly worked for the NC State Highway Patrol and served as Chief of Police for Cherryville Police Department.  Mr. Parker retired after 22 years from Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation as a long line driver.  He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Cherryville and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Connie Grindstaff Parker, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, James H. “Jimmy” Parker, Jr. and Sandy; a daughter and son-in-law Diane Kern and Alan all of Cherryville; a grandson Alex James Parker of New York and a brother, Cecil Parker of Rockingham.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 12:45 until 1:45PM at Shady Grove Baptist Church Family Life Center.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM Friday, December 27, 2013 at Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating.

Burial will be in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
