James “Jimmy” Campbell

Mr. James “Jimmy” Campbell, age 86 of Ellenboro, NC, passed away Friday, December 12, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family.  Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Big Springs Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Paul Scott and Rev. Joe Edwards.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 3:00 pm prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.    

   He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Becky Helen (Miller) Campbell of the home, two sons, Donald “Don” Campbell and wife Susan of Rutherfordton, NC, and Dwight “Dee” Campbell of Shelby, NC, a daughter, Carol Clary and husband Danny of Shelby, NC, and three grandchildren, Chase Lee Campbell and wife Kelly of Charlotte, NC, Clay Christopher Campbell of Shelby, NC, and Mandy Taylor and husband Matt of Rutherfordton, NC, and two great granddaughters, Emma Taylor and Sarah Taylor, a sister-in-law, Louise Campbell of Shelby, NC, and several nieces and nephews.

   Born March 8, 1928 in Rutherford County, Mr. Campbell was the son of the late Jesse James and Evie Texas (Lee) Campbell and was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Campbell and Julian Campbell, three sisters, Ellie Gold, Ruby Elliott, and Lucy Blanton. Jimmy graduated from Hollis High School.  After graduation, he briefly attended Appalachian State University having to return home to attend to the family farm due to his father’s illness.  Jimmy worked on the farm most his life and later owned and operated his own landscaping business.  Mr. Campbell was a lifetime member of the Big Springs Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher.  Jimmy was also on the Board of Directors for the Polkville Volunteer Fire Department.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time outdoors, and spending time with his family and friends.   

   Pallbearers will be Chase Lee Campbell, Clay Christopher Campbell, Danny Clary, Matt Taylor, and David Bridges.

   The family would like to express a sincere thanks to the special caregivers, Crystal Bracebridge, Kelly Mosteller, Dianne Camp, Lori Sullens, Linda Canipe, Ronda Lankford, Charlene Gray, and also Joannie Mabry with Hospice.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28152 or to the Big Springs Baptist Church, 534 Big Springs Church Road, Ellenboro, NC 28040.
