James "Jimmy" Goforth
James "Jimmy" Goforth, age 72, of Forest City, NC, died Sunday, September 10, 2018 at his residence.
Born August 2, 1946 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Mal Briscoe Goforth and Rosa Lee Barnes Goforth. He was a graduate of Chase High School and Cleveland Technical College. Jimmy was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. He worked for Fiber Industries for thirty years before retirement and was a faithful, dedicated and long-time member of Chase Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and Sunday School Director at the church and enjoyed woodworking. Jimmy loved his family and took great pleasure in spoiling his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda G. Goforth and brother, Jack Goforth.
Those left to cherish his memory include one son, Jamie M. Goforth and wife, Cynthia of Forest City; brother, Roy Lee Goforth and wife, Maxine of Cliffside; two granddaughters, Miranda Bridges (Jacob) of Shelby and Dena Stinnette (Thomas) of Mooresboro; four great-grandchildren, Calee Jolley, Laney Bridges, Carter Bridges, Ben Stinnette and a sister-in-law, Aretta Grant of Charlotte.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Chase Baptist Church with Reverend Scott Butler officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time in the church Fellowship Hall. A graveside service at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors being provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard will follow the service at the church. Mr. Goforth will lie in state from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
