James M. (Jimmy) Townsend
James M. (Jimmy) Townsend, 60, of Blacksburg, SC, went Home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 26th, at Atrium Health, Charlotte, NC. Jimmy was born in Brunswick, GA on October 17, 1961, a son of the late Wanda Joyce (Teston) and Ralph Paul Townsend. He was married to Wanda (Ferguson) Townsend for 38 years.

A graduate of Blacksburg High School, Class of 1980, he was a member of the Football Hall of Fame, BHS Band Booster Club, Athletic Booster Club, Former President of Blacksburg Little League Football, Blacksburg Little League Baseball, and served on the Cherokee County Recreation Department Board. He was employed with Porter Electric for over 34 years.

Jimmy was a Deacon of Broad River Baptist Church, served on Broad River Baptist's Mission Teams, Youth Ministries, and positively impacted the lives of young people in his community. In his free time he loved to hunt and fish and support the High School Football team and Band, "Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat."

Left to Cherish his memory, in addition to his wife, are one Son, Avery Townsend of the home, and Daughter by choice, Crystal Starnes of Blacksburg; three sisters, Carolyn Batchler (Wayne) of Blacksburg, Cleetie Upchurch (Scott) of Blacksburg, Paulette Peeler (Butch) of Blacksburg, and one Brother, Timmy Townsend of Anderson, SC. He had numerous Nieces and Nephews that were extremely close to his heart.

Preceding Jimmy in death, in addition to his Parents, are one Son, James Tyler Townsend.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2022 from 6-8 PM at Broad River Baptist Church, with a Celebration of Life Service, Wednesday, March 2, 2022, 3 PM at Broad River Baptist Church, with Rev. Norman Philbeck and Rev. Danny Meetze officiating. Interment will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers serving are Traye Maynor, Ricky Greene, Cody Wright, Berkley Richards, Christopher Manning, and Butch Peeler. The Deacons of Broad River Baptist Church will serve as Honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested for the Backpack Buddies Ministry or the Mission Teams of Broad River Baptist Church, 419 W Cherokee St. Blacksburg, SC 29702.
