James Marvin "Bud" Butler, Jr
James Marvin "Bud" Butler, Jr., age 93, of Forest City, died Saturday, October 31, 2015 at his residence.
Born April 21, 1922 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late James Marvin Butler, Sr. and Margaret Ethel Padgett Butler. He was an US Army veteran, having served during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Bud served as the Cleveland County Tax Assessor for twenty-one years and was a long time member of Floyd's Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and listening to gospel music.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, of seventy-three years, Connie Towery Butler; two sisters, Louise Hill and Jacquerine Jolley; brother, Jimmy Butler; two grandsons, Jarrett Foster and Travis Foster.
Survivors include his wife of two years, Jean Butler; two daughters, Joyce Hughey and husband, Dean of Gaffney, SC and Linda Foster and husband, Jimmy of Forest City; son, Ronald S. Butler and wife Cathy of Asheville; brother, Max Padgett Butler and wife, Marion of Shelby; three step-daughters, Kay Walters and husband, Mike of Waxhaw, NC, Ann Gibson and husband, Rovie of Forest City and Barbara Triplett of Lenoir, NC. He is also survived by five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 o'clock in the morning on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at the Floyd's Creek Baptist Cemetery with Reverend Shane Kirby officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at the cemetery. The body will lie in state from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday evening at Harrelson Funeral Home.
