James Michael "Jim" Hamby, 82, of Suffolk Drive, Shelby, died on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Atrium HealthCare - Shelby. A native of Greenville County, South Carolina, he was born December 07, 1935, son of the late Carl and Mildred Abrams Hamby. Jim was a 1957 graduate of Clemson University and was a United States Army Veteran, achieving the rank of Captain. He worked in textiles, retiring from Doran Mills of Shelby. After his retirement, he worked for many years as a Funeral Service Assistant at McKinney-Landreth & Carroll Funeral Home. Jim was an active member of Zoar Baptist Church of Shelby where he has served as a Sunday School Teacher of the Barnabas Class, Chairman of Deacons, and in numerous other capacities.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant son, Stephen Michael Hamby and one daughter, Lisa Ann Hamby Bradley.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Thorne Hamby; one daughter, Lyn Hamby Carroll and husband Steve of Shelby; one son, Rob Hamby of Sicklerville, NJ; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Terry Bradley and wife Dawn of Shelby.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Zoar Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Danny West, Rev. Dr. Rob Helton, and Rev. Dr. Robert Rose officiating. Burial will be held at 11:00am on Monday, May 28, 2018 at Cleveland Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 7:00pm to 9:00pm on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
