James Russell Gash, Jr.

Mr. James Russell Gash, Jr., 64, of 720 Morrison St., Shelby, NC departed this life on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the home of his sister after a brief illness.  He was born on June 15, 1949 in Cleveland County, NC as the oldest child of his proud parents, the late Russell and Odessa Wright Gash.

James attended Faith Baptist Church where he was a faithful trustee and active as an usher.  He also served as the grounds keeper.  James was looked upon as a pillar in his church. 

James was a good-hearted, giving person who always kept a smile on his face.  He had a humble spirit who helped everyone who needed it.  James looked down on no one, instead he would build them up with kind words and only had good things to say about everyone.  Everyone was somebody to James.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Gash and two nephews, Jermaine Gash and Lyle Gash.

Left to cherish fond memories are two sons, James Chad Sargeant of Shelby, Russell Antonio Gash of Greenville, SC; a daughter, Cierra Gash of Shelby; three adopted children, Kamren Gash, Nevaeh Gash and Anaya Gash all of Shelby; two sisters, Nancy Gash and Ruby Gash both of Shelby; four brothers, Paul Gash (Ramona) of Kingstown, NC, Donald Gash, Bruce (Cassandra) and Steve Gash all of Shelby; four grandchildren, Paris Gash, Dejarris Gash, Gabrielle Horn and Chaddisty Chambers; a special niece, Angel Gash of Shelby; five aunts, Carolyn Wright, Edna Wright, Christine Wright and Ollie Merriweathers all of Shelby and Geraldine Gash of Brevard, NC; an additional sister-in-law, Charlene Gash of Lawndale; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 2:30 PM at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor M. Lamont Littlejohn officiating and Dr. Anthony Negbenebor delivering the eulogy.  Burial will take place at Faith Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 PM on Saturday and at other times at 320 E. Sumter St. in Shelby.
