Jean McSwain Teague Cabaniss

Mrs. Jean McSwain Teague Cabaniss of Shelby passed on January 7 at Hospice House of Rutherford County after a long battle with Alzheimers.  Mrs. Cabaniss is preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. G. Forrest Teague; daughter Cecelia Vianne; father, Palmer McSwain; mother, Cecelia Padgett Eades; step-father, John Eades; sister Jo Wentzel and Ellen Griffin; brothers, Hilton and Steve Eades.

She is survived by her husband, Charlie Cabaniss; step-sons John (DeAnna) Cabaniss and Jeff (Tonya) Cabaniss; step-daughter Julie (Bruce) C. Duncan; brotherin-law, “Zip” Wentzel; step-grandchildren Jennifer, Katie, Jessica and Rachel Duncan; Taylor, Haden and Briley Cabaniss; step-great grandsons, Gabe Duncan and Joseph Puckett; also niece Kathy Epley and several nephews.

Mrs. Cabaniss was of Baptist faith and a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church.  She was a graduate of Lattimore High School, Gardner-Webb University, Wake Forest University, Southeastern Baptist Seminary, Appalachian State University and studied at Duke University.  Jean was a Southern Baptist Missionary in Hawaii; the Middle East in Amman, Jordan where she taught King Hussein’s children and a missionary to Japan as English Professor at Seinan Jo Gakuin.  In 1986 when she left the missionary field, she served as Director Recruiting and Counseling.  In 1991, she joined Gardner-Webb University as Director of International Student programs concentrating on Japanese students from Dohto University, Japan. 

Funeral services will be held at Cleveland Funeral Service Chapel at 12 Noon on Friday, January 10, 2014.  Visitation will be held at 10:30 till Noon.  Officiating will be Rev. Keith Dixon, Rev. Shane Kirby and Rev. Mike Frazier.  Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
