Jean Robinson Sikes

Mrs. Jean Robinson Sikes, 92, a/k/a Gran, Hey-Hey & Mama Sikes, died peacefully with family by her side on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016 in Shelby. She was born May 26, 1924 to the late James R. Robinson and Jessie Robinson. She graduated from Shelby High, had a long career in finance and banking in Shelby, and became the first woman in Shelby to become a Vice President at BB&T. Jean was an accomplished Duplicate Bridge player and was the first in Shelby to achieve the goal of Silver Masters. She was a member at Central United Methodist Church.

Jean is survived by her husband of 70 years, Frank H. Sikes, Jr., her children Hayden Sikes Soloway (Mark) of Shelby, Melinda Sikes Fair of Charlotte, and Richard Shannon Sikes of Shelby, and was predeceased by her son, Frank H. (Skipper) Sikes, III. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Laura Lee Wellington (John) and Bart Lee (Stacy) of Shelby, Megan Fair Croft (Randy), and Nathan Fair of Dallas, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Blake Willis (fiancé Emma Thomas), Brylee Byrd, Brynson Byrd, McKenna & Ellie Croft; sister Toby Pruett (Austin), nieces, nephews, many special friends, and 4-legged friends, Elmer, Rascal and Shorty.

A Funeral service will be held Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with visitation following the service. At other times the family will be at the home, 3008 Poplar Circle, Shelby, NC 28152.

The family requests that donations are made to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Matthew Relief.
