Jelma Hamrick Daves

SHELBY-Jelma Hamrick Daves, 79, went to be with her Lord, Sun., Aug. 28, 2016, at her home. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Arbuth L. and Thelma Austin Hamrick. Jelma retired from Shelby City Schools after 30 years of teaching. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, and was an avid Bridge and Rummy card player. She loved to cook for her family, and attend her grand and great-grandchildren's sports and dance activities. When time allowed, she enjoyed spending time with family, at her second home in Garden City, SC.

PRECEDED: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Clyde Jackson Daves; sister, Robena and husband Clyde Baldwin; brothers, Durward and wife Mary Hmrick, Vitto and wife Betty Hamrick, and Reece Hamrick; and brother-in-law, Charles Daves

SURVIVED: She is survived by her three loving daughters, Amelia Poston and husband Richard, Melanie Wallace and husband Jeff, all of Shelby, Angela Kendrick and husband Jason of Lawndale; sister, Hilda Whisnant of Ellenboro; grandchildren, Jessica Yarboro and husband Ben, Jacob Wallace and wife Heather, Matthew Raines and wife Juleigh, Katie Ringley and husband Tanner, Celeste, Tyler and Jase Kendrick; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Lainey Yarboro, and Jackson Raines; sister-in-law, Jean Daves of Forest City, and Elaine Hamrick of Ellenboro; special family friends, Jim Lackey, and his wife, the late Beckie Lackey, and Peggy Hines; numerous nieces and nephews; her caregivers, Yvonne Wimbush and Shannon Malachi, and all her former caregivers; and a special thank you to Hospice of Cleveland County and nurses, Joanie Mabry and Sheree Wilson.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends Thursday, 5:30-7p.m., at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, and other times at her home.

SERVICES: Funeral services will be held Friday, 11a.m., at Bethel Baptist Church in Shelby

OFFICIATING: The Rev. Dr. Tim Sims will officiate

BURIAL: will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Ellenboro
