Jewel Crawford Smith

Cherryville – Mrs. Jewel Crawford Smith, 77, met her Lord and Savior and was reunited with her family on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at her residence.

 

Jewel was born in Cleveland County on January 6, 1935 a daughter of the late George Crawford and Gertrude Lowrance Crawford.  She graduated from Shelby High School. Jewel’s love for music started when she started taking piano lessons at the age of five and later went on to become the music director at Salem Baptist Church in Lincolnton and Mount Zion Baptist Church of Cherryville.  Jewel currently served as pianist for First Baptist Church in Cherryville where she was a longtime member, she was a member of the Church Choir, the Irene McSwain Sunday School class, enjoyed helping at Vacation Bible School and served in many other capacities at the church.  Jewel also directed the Cherryville Singing Christmas Tree for several years.

 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John O. “Bud” Smith, Jr. and all of her children, John Otto Smith, IV; George Bradley Smith and Angie Dee Smith.

 

Survivors include her sister Peggy Putnam of Shelby and several niece’s, nephews and cousins.

 

Visitation will be on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 1:45 until 2:45pm at First Baptist Church in Cherryville.

 

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 3:00PM at First Baptist Church with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating.

 

Burial will be in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery.

 

Memorials may be made to the Angie Smith Memorial Scholarship c/o First Baptist Church, 301 E. First St. Cherryville, NC 28021.
