Joe Ben Porter

Joe Ben Porter age 79 died Thursday December 3, 2015 at Carolinas Healthcare Cleveland. Born in Cleveland County on June 28, 1936 he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Ava Mozelle Cook Porter.Joe was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church where he served as a former Deacon and Sunday School Director. Joe served in the National Guard and retired from Celanese Corporation after 36 years of service. He was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed being outside, fishing, and traveling. Joe loved spending time with family and making people laugh. In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by a brother, Hazel Porter.

Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha Crocker Porter; five daughters, Patsy Norman of Forest City, Kathy Gamble and husband Bill of Lattimore, Judy Allen and husband Kevin, Brinda Haynes and husband Johnny and Linda Murray (Scott) all of Shelby; two sisters, Pauline Augustine and husband Bernie of Greensboro and Carolyn Deaver of Shelby; a brother, Gary Porter and wife Wanda of Shelby; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Snyder and wife Stephanie, Justin Gamble, Natalie Gamble, Austin Allen and wife Stephanie, Cody Allen, Meredith Allen, Jazlyn Haynes, and Shawntay Lantz and husband Michael; five great grandchildren, Malachi Gamble, Kennedy Snyder, Marshall Lantz, Julian Lantz, and Khloe Lantz; many nieces and nephews, and his canine baby girl, "Angel".

Funeral service will be held on Sunday December 6, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Buffalo Baptist Church with Rev. Macky Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the sanctuary and other times at the home.
