Joe was born in Gaston County on April 13, 1933 a son of the late Rufus Hollifield Moss and Mamie Laura Craft Moss.  Joe was a graduate of Cherryville High School Class of 1953 a member of Crouse United Methodist Church, Cherryville American Legion Post 100 and Cherryville VFW Post 5200 and was in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was retired after 32 years as a long line driver with Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation of Cherryville. 

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Cornelia Anthony Moss of the home; five sons, Bill Moss and wife Quita, Terry Moss and wife Dawn, Tim Moss and wife Samantha, Jay Moss and wife Beth all of Cherryville and Ray Moss and wife Julie of Charlotte; a brother Cone C. Moss; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

In addition to his parents Joe was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will be on Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00p.m. at Stamey~Cherryville Funeral Home and other times the family will be at the home.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at 3:00p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Cherryville with the Rev. Jim Sanders officiating.

Burial will be in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Cherryville American Legion Post 100.
