John Alvin Hicks, Jr., 84, of 5301 Brooks Chapel Road, Ellenboro, died
Monday, January 27, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Born December 28, 1929 in McDowell County, he was a son of the late John
Alvin Hicks, Sr. and Ova Cordilla Foster Hicks. He worked for Ford Motor
Company as a mechanic and taught auto mechanics at McDowell Technical
Community College. Mr. Hicks was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and
served in the US Army and Air Force.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Patsy Russell Hicks; son, John
Hicks, III and wife, Jeanne of Shelby; three daughters, Rose Grigg and
husband, Charles, Lois Shuford and husband, Michael and Rebekah Lail and
husband, Jason all of Shelby; fourteen grandchildren and a brother, Carl
Hicks of Conover.
Visitation: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Saturday, Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.
Memorial Service: 2:00 PM, Saturday at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel
