Born in Burke County, he was a son of the late Furman and Minnie Wright Chapman.   Mr. Chapman was a timber cutter for Ed Wellmon Logging Company and a member of Hoyle Memorial Christina Fellowship.

In addition of his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Mr. Chapman is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Erlene Hudson Chapman; son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Tiffany Chapman; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Phillip Brown all of Casar; brothers, Beauford Chapman of Golden Valley, Trigger Chapman of Morganton and Dick Chapman of Granite Falls; sister, Ruby Woody of Connelly Springs; and grandchildren, Nicole Brown, Ashley Chapman, Bailey Chapman, Madison Mathis, Meysen Chapman and Brysen Chapman.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 pm Monday at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston.

The funeral service will be 3:00 pm Tuesday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Casar with Revs. Dick Chapman, Eddie Gray, John Junior Hudson and Jerry Hudson.  The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
