John Douglas McDaniel

John Douglas McDaniel, 83, life-long resident of the Bethlehem Community in Kings Mountain went to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Kings Mountain Hospice House.  Son of the late Lee and Eva McDaniel, he was born in Cleveland County.  He was proceeded in death by his brothers, Dennis and Jack McDaniel and his sisters, Janelle and Priscilla McDaniel.

A member of Bethlehem Baptist Church from his childhood, he loved his church, and his church family.  He enjoyed the fellowship as well as serving the Lord.  Throughout the years, he served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Chairman of Deacons as well as serving on various committees and enjoyed singing in the choir.

In August of 1950, along with several other young men from the community, he joined the Army and served with the 311th Station Hospital at Fort Bragg.  Serving during the Korean Conflict, he received an honorable discharge in 1954, and returned to the family dairy farm.

After returning to the farm, he continued in the dairy business for several years, followed by a career working with industrial processed piping.  He retired as President/Owner from Bethlehem Piping & Welding Co., Inc., a business which was started by him and his brother-in-law, the late Jimmy Reynolds.  During his retirement years, he enjoyed working around the farm with his John Deere tractor, woodworking, gardening with his wife of 63 years and cheering for his   grandchildren in their sports, farming, and business ventures. He was a loving husband, Dad, and “Paw”, and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to the entire Staff of Cleveland County Hospice, and the many friends who have helped in so many ways with his care.  Your love, prayers, meals, visits, and support has truly been a blessing to his entire family.
