John was born September 3, 1964 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Harold Dean Maness, Sr. and Frieda McIntyre Maness.  He worked in textiles most of his life and was a member of First Baptist Church of Spindale.  He enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR. 

     Survivors include one daughter, Macie Maness of Spartanburg, SC; one son, John Michael Pye of Spartanburg; fiancé, Rhonda Morrow of Rutherfordton; one sister, Nancy Humphries of Forest City; three brothers, Harold Dean Maness of Forest City, James Maness of Roebuck, SC, Vick Maness of Forest City; one granddaughter, Cothenia Marie Cole, and his step-father, Steve Dyer of Forest City.

     A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Spindale with Reverend Andy Evans officiating.  The family will greet friends following the service at the church.
