Mr. John "Johnny" Strickland, Jr., age 72 of Shelby, NC, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Home.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Shirley (Patterson) Strickland of the home, two children, Michelle Strickland of Shelby, NC, and Dale Hoyle of Hendersonville, NC, four grandchildren, Ashley Strickland, Michaela Grobsky, Hartlee Hoyle, and Mackenze Brooks, a great grandchild, Kaniyah Tate, two sisters, Jo Jones of Thomasville, NC, and Sarah Edwards of Florida and several nieces and nephews.
Born April 4, 1943 in Pulaska, Virginia, Mr. Strickland was the son of the late John Strickland, Sr. and Gladys (Wilson) Strickland and was preceded in death by a sister, Della Ann Strickalnd.
Mr. Strickland was a devoted Christian and loved going to church when he was able. He served in a rescue squad for more than 7 years. He enjoyed the Atlanta Braves, Nascar, and fishing. He was a true jokester and had a great sense of humor. Johnny loved his children and grandchildren with all of his heart and they loved him in return. He will be missed by those that knew him.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Cleveland Funeral Services and Crematory conducted by Rev. Jared Pankhurst and Eric Stamey. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
