John “June” Brooks

Mr. John “June” Brooks, 84, of 820 Earl Rd. Apt. D Shelby, NC departed this earthly life to enter into eternal life on Friday, September 13, 2013 at his residence.  He was born on November 10, 1928 in Cleveland County to the late Marvin and Odessa Tipps Brooks.

 

John worked at Bost Bakery for 40 years until he retired.  He was a fun and  loving person to be around.  Having a garden and watching his family grow were his passions in life.

 

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Lee Thomas Brooks; two grandson, Frederick Robbs and Thomas Christopher Brooks, II; four brothers, Rob Brooks, William Brooks, Walter Brooks and J.C. Brooks and five sisters, Novella Rippy, Mary Sue Robinson, Elizabeth Wilson, Marthalean Mance and Fannie Hopper.  In his words, he was the last apple on the tree.

 

John leaves to cherish precious memories; four sons, Apostle Eugene Brooks (Shirley) of Lincolnton, NC, John Stephen Brooks (Diana) of Kings Mountain, NC, Thomas Christopher “T.C.” Brooks (Wendy) of Shelby and Ray Kevin Brooks (Shanna) of Lincolnton; seven daughters, Joyce McSwain (Thomas), Teresa Dukes (Ronnie) and Brenda Perkins (Jasper) all of Shelby, Juanita Brice (Rodney) of Gastonia, NC, Janice Miller of Lincolnton, Pearlie Withrow of Kings Mountain and Angela Rena Brooks of Buffalo, NY; twenty-nine grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; four brothers-in-law, Willie Jones, James Poston, Herman Wilson and Roosevelt Mance all of Shelby; three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Jones, Lucrecia Brooks and Marie Poston (who was raised as a daughter) all of Shelby; his estranged wife, Mary Alice Whisnant Brooks of Shelby and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 3:00 PM at New Providence Full Gospel Church, 947 George Brown, Rd, Crouse, NC 28033 with Bishop Thomas McCluney officiating and Apostle Eugene Brooks officiating.  Burial will take place at the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:00 PM at the church and at other times at 201 Ross Grove Church Rd. in Shelby and 203 Beam Court in Shelby.
