John Kenneth Hartsell, Sr. age 82 of 201 S. Elm Street died January 30, 2013 at his residence. Ken was born in Mecklenburg County, March 5, 1930 the son of the late Adam Spurgeon and Emma Smith Hartsell. He was retired office employee with Duke Power for 41 years and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cherryville and a veteran of the Korean War, US Navy.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son John Kenneth “Skeet” Hartsell, Jr.
and a brother.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years Mary Jo Flowers Hartsell of the home, two brother and their wives Billy George and Joyce Blackwelder of Pensacola , Fl and Joel and Gwynneth Blackwelder of Cherryville, a sister Ruth Canup of Charlotte, four nieces; Debbie Matherson of Kings Mountain, Janice Barker and Sandy Flowers both of Bessemer City, Donnie Hall of Lincolnton.
Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Friday, February 1, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Dr. Billy Lowe officiating. Burial will follow the service in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 – 1:45 PM.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church “Endowment or Growth Fund”, 107 W. Academy Street, Cherryville, NC 28021.
