John Max "Mole" Greene

John Max "Mole" Greene, 91, of Lawndale, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 2, 2022.

Born in Cleveland County on January 30, 1931, he was the son of the late Wray Greene and Jessie Greene. A lifelong resident of Upper Cleveland County, he was a dearly loved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend and Pa.

He graduated from #3 Township in 1949. He joined the Navy as a SeaBe from 1951-1953 before enjoying a successful career with Southern Bell for over 30 years, retiring in 1983. After his retirement, he enjoyed devoting his time to his church, saltwater fishing and spending time at the beach with his family. He also enjoyed working for Peeler African Violets as a driver for five years. He was also a member of Cleveland Lodge 202.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean McFarland Greene; a son, John Max Greene, Jr.; a daughter, Gina Greene; and two brothers Jake Greene and Ray Greene.

He is survived by his stepson, Randy Warlick (Deedee) of Ocean Isle Beach; four grandchildren, Kevin Warlick (Jessica) of Shelby, Kelli Simmons (Mickey) of Shelby; Will Warlick of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Madelyn Warlick of Houston, TX and six great-grandchildren, Morgan Warlick, Graham Warlick, Mason Simmons, Eli Simmons, Kylei Ward, and Kamden Ward all of Shelby: sister-in-law, Jackie Greene of Shelby and many special nieces and nephews.

Mr. Greene's family wishes to thank the devoted caregivers and staff at Peak Resources in Cherryville for their compassionate care of their Pa.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 5th, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at New Bethel Baptist Church. At other time the family will be at the home of Kelli & Mickey Simmons 2138 Wesson Road, Shelby, NC 28152.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 5th, 2022 at 2:00 pm at New Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Carson Putnam officiating.

The burial will follow the service in the Cleveland Memorial Park.
