John Paul Earwood

John Paul Earwood, 86, of 123 E. Double Shoals Road in Shelby passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Kings Mountain Hospital.

 

Born June 29, 1927 in Cleveland County, he was son of the late William Moton Earwood and Emma Dona Blanton Earwood of Belwood. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for Cleveland Mills. In addition, Paul worked as a railroad brakeman, and ship builder in Newport News, Virginia, working on the USS United States. He was also a master woodworker and built the pulpit for Sharon United Methodist Church in Charlotte.

 

When he wasn't spending time with the love of his life and best friend, Margie Lee Spangler Earwood, he enjoyed working in his yard and riding his John Deere tractors. He was of the Baptist Faith and attended Westwood Heights Baptist Church. Paul will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, infectious smile, and loving and generous heart.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie, two brothers Donald James Earwood and Walter Earwood, two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Edith and Kermit Little, Ann and Odes Ledford and Wallace Vinesett.

 

Survivors include two brothers and two sisters in-laws, Frank and Peggy Earwood, and Joe and Frances Earwood, both of Shelby, and two sisters and brother-in-law Nellie and Ben Allen of Madison, Florida and Doris Vinesett of Boiling Springs, and numerous nieces and nephews including nephews, Josh and Stan Earwood, who have been by his side daily during the last years of his life.

 

Visitation will be held Monday, April 21, 6 PM-8 PM at Stamey Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at 123 Double Shoals Road, Shelby.

 

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 11 AM, at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with Revs David Costner and Cecil Buff officiating.

 

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
