Johnny R. Greene, age 76, of Prospect Church Road, Cliffside, NC, died July 25, 2014 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born March 28, 1938 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Roy Greene and Inez Thrift Greene. He worked for Cone Mill for thirty-eight years before his retirement and enjoyed working on old cars and clocks. He was a current member of Prospect Baptist Church and in earlier years served as a deacon for various other Baptist churches. He was a quiet, honest and straight forward man who cared deeply for his family and especially loved spending time with his grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Junior and Cletus Greene; sister, Rosie Wilkie and one grandson, Jonathan Dylan Greene.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Tula Wilkie Greene; son, Roger Greene and wife, Kim; daughter, Christy Greene all of Cliffside. He is also survived by three grandsons, Justin Greene and wife, Anna, Jake Greene and Tyler Stacey.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2014 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Dennis Spencer and Reverend Ernie Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Cliffside Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Terry Greene, Rodney Greene, Justin Greene, Jake Greene, Tyler Stacey and Tim Wilkie. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
