Joseph Hal Dedmon
 Joseph Hal Dedmon, 72, died Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Crawley Hospital
after a long illness.
   He was born to A.V. and Lizzie Lee Kendrick Dedmon on February 14, 1938
in Rowan County.  Joe grew up in Cleveland County and graduated from Shelby
High School in 1956.  He attended Gardner-Webb College (now University), and
after service in the US Army, graduated from Limestone College in 1966 with
a BA Degree in Business Administration.
   Joe was always interested in mechanical things and spent his adult life
working at A.V. Dedmon Trucking, Inc., in charge of truck maintenance.  He
had served as Secretary-Treasure of the business, and at the time of his
death he held the office of Executive Vice-President.
   Among Joe's hobbies were travel, gardening, and the restoration of a
1946 Mack truck, which was exhibited at the American Truck Historical
Society meeting in Greensboro in 1997.  Joe had a "giving" heart and when he
gardened, he grew extra food to give to friends who had no garden.
   In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother,
Richard Kendrick Dedmon, and a special friend, Evelean Deviney.  
   Survivors are siblings Mary Ruth Dedmon Hord and husband, Horace; Doris
Ann Dedmon Steele and husband, Dale; Charles E. Dedmon and wife, Doris; Sue
Dedmon Dover and husband, Troy; Roy Lee Dedmon and wife, Connie; and
sister-in-law, Sandy Schenck Dedmon.  He was fondly known as "Uncle Joe" by
nieces, nephews and their spouses, including Deborah Hord, Melanie Hord and
Felipe Arauz, Charlotte Hord Smith and Scott, Emily Hord MacMillan and John,
Karen Steele Havey and Daniel, Carol Steele Stephens and Mike, Lisa Dedmon
Austin and John, Lora Dedmon, Lynda Dedmon, Lenita Dedmon Griffin and Dan,
Tyson Dover, Lizzie Grace Dedmon Urizar and Carlos, Sarah Gwen Dedmon Caple
and Benjamin, AnnaLee Victoria Dedmon, Susannah Dedmon and Travis Pryduluk,
and Garth Dedmon.  Also those who cherish his memory are Misty Shope and
husband, Dwayne and their children, Mary Alexis and Ella Grace and many
great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
   The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Sunday, January
23, 2011 at Elizabeth Baptist Church in the Adult 7 Mens Sunday school
class.  At other times the family will be at the home of Charles and Doris
Dedmon, 1108 Rollingwood Drive, Shelby, NC.
   A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, January 23, 2011 at
Elizabeth Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Rit Varriale, Rev. Jeff Brendle
and the Rev. Dr. Dale Steele officiating.  Burial will follow in the church
cemetery.
   Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
