JT Thrift, 69, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Hillard William and Genelle Ross Thrift. He was also preceded in death by his brothers; Charles, David, Richard, Bobby, Hillard Jr, Roger Dale and Harold Dean Thrift; sister, Alma Mae Carpenter; and son, Gary Wray Thrift. JT retired from Lithium Corporation. He was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served as an usher. He was a member and past master of State Line Masonic Lodge #375 A.F &.A.M. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Oasis Shrine Temple and Piedmont Shrine Club. He was an honorary member of all 35th district masonic lodges. JT raised Black Angus cattle and loved his trips to the sale barn.
JT is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Martha Curry Thrift; sons, Curtis Thrift and wife Cindy of Kings Mountain and Michael Thrift of Kings Mountain; daughter, Lori Thrift Houser and husband Bryan of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Lorrin Plyler, Bryce Mullis, Preston Thrift, Taylor Thrift, Dylan Thrift; great grandson, Landon Moore; step grandchildren, Wesley Moore and Mary Leigh Caldwell.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Greg Martin will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full masonic rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30pm on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Cecil M Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. At other times the family will be at the home.
