| Judy Chastain Long, 70, passed away on Sunday, June 3 2012 at home. A native of Highlands, NC, she was the daughter of the late Claude William and Bernice Hedden Chastain. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Ortega and Evelyn Nix, and one brother, Jim Chastain. Judy was a devoted member of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she served as regent, treasurer and vice-regent. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Highlands, NC. Judy was a cosmetologist for 26 years and later a realtor for 18 years. She loved reading, painting, genealogy and was currently working on writing a family cookbook. Judy loved her time with her grandchildren and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Judy is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, John B. Long, Jr.; daughter, Donna Long Gouveia and her husband Michael of Raleigh and their children Alisa Phifer, Jordan Phifer, both of Charlotte, NC, Casen Gouveia of Florence, SC and Danielle Gouveia of Myrtle Beach, SC, daughter, Pamela Long Skinner and her husband Scott of Boiling Springs, NC and their children Joshua and Lindsay Skinner of Boiling Springs, NC, daughter, Caroline Long Ruch and her husband Ben of Oak Ridge, NC and their children Holden and Alexandra Ruch of Oak Ridge, NC; two sisters, Lazell Vinson of Dillard, GA and Joann Baldwin of Franklin, NC; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30pm on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory in Shelby NC. A private celebration of life service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Macon Funeral Home in Franklin, NC for family members. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00am prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials are sent to the American Cancer Society, 1901 Brunswick Avenue, Charlotte, NC, 28207.
