June Samuel Hawkins, 88, of Mount Pleasant Church Road, Forest City, passed away on Thursday July 12, 2012 at Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. He was born on February 6, 1924, a son of the late Albert Hawkins. He was a retired Mechanic. He was also a United States Army Veteran having served in World War II. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Forest City, a member of the DAV, an avid hunter and outdoors man.
He is survived by his wife, Retta Humphries Hawkins, two sons, Robert Hawkins and wife Linda of Ellenboro and Ronnie Hawkins and wife Martha of Mooresboro; one daughter, June Hawkins Green and husband Rickey of Ellenboro; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm on Friday, July 13 at McKinney Landreth & Carroll Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Cleveland Memorial Park with Rev. Brice Durtman officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
