Katie Lou Walker Davis
Katie Lou Walker Davis, 9th child and daughter of the late Vernie Elizabeth McCurry Walker and Julius Plato Durham Walker, after many long years of suffering from a ravaged, sickly body, peacefully transitioned into the perfection of heaven promised through faith in her Savior, Jesus on Friday, May 2nd.  She was surrounded by her faithful, loving husband of 58 years, James Carl Davis, her daughter, Angela Davis London, adored son-in-law, Lawton Shannon (Shan) London, beloved grandson, James Thomas Fitch, and her truly loved future granddaughter-in-law, Amanda Michelle Dotson.  In addition to the aforementioned, her faithful canine companions who traveled this entire journey consistently by her side, were Nina, Sparky, and Holly.

Faith and family were the constant guides for Katie’s entire 80 years granted to her on this Earth.  She and James were Charter Members of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Shelby; attending and supporting until their health no longer permitted, which was a very traumatic realization for each of them as they were the first couple to be married at the church, Easter Sunday, April 1, 1956.

Katie enjoyed many years of employment as the Cleveland County Schools Finance Officer, as well as several years as bookkeeper for Cleveland Country Club and Carolina Dairy from where she retired.

Katie loved any and everyone she ever had the opportunity to meet.  Her kindness, love, compassion, sense of humor, and empathy knew no boundaries.  The legacy she has left behind for all who knew her is tremendous, as well as one all should aspire to make their own.

Katie was the last of her 11 brothers and sisters, in addition to her parents to take her heavenly flight.  She loved and missed each and everyone of them immensely, and never let a day go by without speaking of one or more of them,  as well as her precious momma and daddy.  She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters; Johnnie Ethel Walker King (Louie), JD Walker (Mert), Van Buren Walker (Emily), Edmond Odell Walker , AC Walker, Fred McCurry Walker, James Vant Walker, Betty Carol Walker Born (Conrad), Shirley Rae Walker Jones (Sam), Wayne Roger Walker, and a very special nephew who was more like a son, Glenn Wray (Mitch) Walker; her granddaughters, Anna Katherine Fitch and Weslyn Walker Fitch.

Survivors include her husband, James Carl Davis, daughter, Angela Davis London, son-in-law, Lawton Shannon (Shan) London, grandson, James Thomas Fitch, and Amanda Michelle Dotson all of Kings Mountain.  Katie also leaves behind four sisters-in-law each of whom she dearly loved:  Flora Ann Smart Walker Smith, Mary Horton Walker, Lela Walker, and Blanche Greene Walker Gettys.  as well as so many cherished and deeply loved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, along with a number of great-great’s as well.

The service to celebrate Katie’s life and legacy will be held Tuesday, May 6 at 3:00pm in the sanctuary of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 before the service, and  at other times the family will be at: 1409 Wesson Road, Shelby, North Carolina 28152.  Internment will be private at Cleveland Memorial Park. At her request, several nieces, nephews, and great-nephews will be taking part in the service.  Pall Bearers will be nephews:  James Ricky Walker, Michael Keith Walker, Jeffrey Kelly Walker, Trevor Lance Walker, and Tyler Wayne Walker, as well as great-nephew’s Gary Edward Shuford, II, Daniel Davis Shuford, and Brian Bost Shuford. Her nieces Alice Elizabeth Jones Towery. Amy Maria Jones, and Jann Bost Ford will be taking a special part in the service as well.  A special musical tribute will be given by her beloved grandson, JT Fitch and the band members from Southern Experience to include Scott Sanders, Nikao Wallace, and Ron Humphries.  Pastor Sylvia Wilhelm and Gary Walker, Katie’s nephew and certified Lay Speaker will conduct the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Cleveland County 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby NC 28150 or Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1207 W Dixon Blvd, Shelby, NC 28152.
