He was born in Cleveland County on April 8, 1949.  He was retired form Doran Textiles as a forklift operator. 

He was preceded in death by two brothers Floyd Smith and Ray Smith and sister, Sue Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sara Jane Reynolds Smith; three sons, Billy Swink and wife Michelle of Shelby, Dustin Smith of Shelby, and Andy McNeilly and wife Barbara of Casar; daughter, Crystal Elliott of Shelby; three brothers, Mitchell Smith of Polkville, Allen Smith of Golden Valley, and Eddie Smith of Golden Valley; sister, Rachel Bowen of Shelby; and ten grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Shumate officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
