Kern Jennings Beam
Kern Jennings Beam, age 85, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Testa Family Hospice House. He was born November 5, 1931 in Gaston County to the late Herbert and Callie Allen Beam. Kern faithfully served his country in the U.S Army during the Korean War and was a long time member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was a retired warehouse supervisor with Carolina Freight, member of the Original New Year's Shooter and helped keep the tradition alive for 50 years. Kern was a skilled gunsmith and craftsmen with a passion for wood working.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Heafner Beam; and five siblings, Alieta Rhyne, Bert Barker, Maxine Newton, Dayne Beam and Doris Hayes.
He is survived by his sons, Chris Beam (Jeanne) of FL, Allen Beam (Carole) of Apex, and Steve Beam (Joanne) of Charlotte; grandsons, James Beam (Rhonda), Andrew Beam, Max Beam and Ryan Beam; great-grandchildren, Christopher Beam and Caley Rose Beam.
Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 1 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery with Rev. Tom Hartis officiating. The family will receive friends after the services in the Saints Hall of St. John's Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, PO Box 100, Cherryville, NC 28021 or to The Memory Center of Charlotte, Charlotte Neuroscience Foundation, 300 Billingsley Rd., Suite 108 Charlotte, NC 28211.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Summit Place of Kings Mountain and Hospice of Cleveland County for the excellent care given to Mr. Beam.
