Lee McBride “Mac” Wells

Lee McBride “Mac” Wells, age 89 died Wednesday April 23, 2014 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Cleveland County on June 11, 1924 he was the son of the late Hunter and Lightal Herndon Wells. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church sang in the choir and taught the three year old Sunday school class. He was a member of the”Greatest Generation” and fought to protect all the freedoms that we enjoy today. He served in the Navy during WWII on the USS New Jersey in the Pacific theater, loading powder into the 16 inch battleship guns that was used during the major battles .  He was the owner and operator of Mac’s Shoes Store in Shelby. Mac was very active in the community until the last three years when he became confined to rest homes.   Mac was a loving person and a Christian gentleman. He set this example which attracted his friends and customers to him. He loved everyone and enjoyed being with his family, friends and many customers. In addition to his parents, Mac is preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Hopper Wells; a son, David Wells Sr.; four sisters, Alton Wells Herndon, Virginia Wells Blalock, Betty Wells Falls, and Margaret Wells Wise; and a brother, Jack Wells.

Mac is survived by a daughter in law, Melissa Wells; three grandchildren, Lee Wells, Lightal Wells, and Laura Wells; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday April 26, 2014 at 11:00am in the Webb Chapel of First Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Tench officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. from 10:00 m until 11:00 am in the sanctuary
