Mr. Lee Roy Wisher, 85, 1528 W. Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, SC, went home to be with Jesus, October 15, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cherokee County, he was the loving husband of Louise Byars Wisher, and a son of the late Robert Young and Lillie Owens Wisher.
Mr. Wisher was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. He was retired from Timken and Roy L. Barnes Construction Co. of Gastonia, NC. He was a Charter Member of Garden Temple Assembly of God where he served as a Council Member. He loved his Lord and his family. He also loved to play golf. He was the 1972 Club Champion of Cherokee National Golf Course.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Louise, are two daughters - Augusta L. Martin and husband, Tony, of Smyrna, SC, and Joyce W. Gatchel and husband, Randy, of Blacksburg, SC; four grandchildren - Angie Robinson and husband, Daniel, of Gaffney, SC, Travis Lee McMurray of Blacksburg, SC, Laura Cuppy and husband, Robert, of Wilmington, NC, and Toni Collins and husband, Darrell, of Ridgeville, SC; nine great-grandchildren - Ashley and Ryan Robinson, Tyler Cuppy, Christina, Merissa and Emma Martin, Joshua, Mikki and Ariel Collins; and four sisters - Barbara Gunn and husband, David, Dorothy Wood and husband, Gene, Marylou Hamrick and husband, Joe, and Gloria Jean McLain. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two grandsons - Timmy Martin and Kevin Gatchel; four brothers - Dean, Buford, Lloyd and Vardell Wisher; and two sisters - Lucille Myers and Georgia Runyons.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7-9:00 PM, at White Columns. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, October 19, 2012, 4:00 PM, at Garden Temple Assembly of God, with Revs. Clint Starnes and Danny Marshburn officiating. The United States Army will provide Military Honors. Interment will be private. At other times, they will be at the home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Hospice Care of SC, 1612 N. Limestone Street, Gaffney, SC, 29341; or to Hospice of Spartanburg Regional, 120 Heywood Avenue, Spartanburg, SC, 29303-3900.
