Lela Mae Cook Houser, 84, of 3127 Cat Square Road died Sunday,
January 16, 2011 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care in Valdese.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Marshall Marion
Cook and Minnie Tallent Cook. Mrs. Houser worked in hoisery and furniture
manufacturing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray
Field Houser; son, Bobby Ray Houser; brothers, Ed Arnie and Grady Cook;
sister, Annie Lail; and very dear friend, Buddy Craig.
Mrs. Houser is survived by son and daughter-in-law, M.C. and Diane Houser of
Lincolnton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patty and Arney Wyant of
Vale, Betty and Bob Melton of Morganton and Linda Townsend of Vale;
brothers, Joe Cook of Lawndale, Fred Cook and Reid Cook both of Vale and
Jessie Cook of Hickory; sisters, Junie Rhoney and Evelyn Townsend both of
Vale, Bessie Bumgarner of Lenoir and Dorothy Cook of Lawndale; twelve
grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and three great great
grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Tuesday at Stamey
Funeral Home in Fallson.
The funeral will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with
Rev. Lawrence Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia United
Methodist Church Cemetery in Vale.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative
Care, 1715 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690 or to Macedonia United Methodist
Church, 8055 Reeps Grove Church Road, Vale, NC 28168.
