Lela Rippy Pennington
 Lela Rippy Pennington, 89, formerly of 252 Lakeview Drive, passed away Saturday, May 21st, 2011, at Brookview Healthcare Center.
 
Born in Blacksburg, Mrs. Pennington was the widow of Paul Pennington and the daughter of the late Eula and Victoria Byars Rippy.  She retired as an inspector at Minette Mill, Inc after 25 years and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher, a member of the JOY Group, the Baptist Women's Group, the Women's Sunday School Class, and she was active in the Blacksburg Senior Center.
 
Mrs. Pennington is survived by a son, Randy Pennington and wife, Sonia, of Blacksburg; two daughters, Paulette Pennington of Spartanburg and Regina Pennington of Shelby; three sisters, Doris Cloninger and husband, Carlisle, of Blacksburg, Reba Hoopaugh of Charlotte, and Norma McDaniel of Shelby; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Rippy and Minnie Rippy, both of Blacksburg; 7 grandchildren, Todd Pennington and wife, Dana, of Gaffney, Richie Pennington and wife, Ashley, of Gaffney, Bleu Bumgardner of Shelby, Savannah Bumgardner of Shelby, David Pennington of Blacksburg, and Anna Pennington of Blacksburg; Makayla Poole of Gaffney and  a step-granddaughter, Holly Alexander and husband, Chris, of Matthews, NC; 2 great-grandchildren, Kaylyn Wright and husband, Dustin, of Gaffney and Zack Pennington of Gaffney; 6 nieces, 5 nephews, and special caregivers, Libby Christoph and her husband, Stan.
 
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Pennington was preceded in death by a son, Donald Pennington; two brothers, Eldon and Allen Rippy, and a sister, Oleta Camp.
 
The family will receive friends Monday, May 23rd, 2011, from 3:00pm - 4:00pm at Antioch Baptist Church.  Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00pm at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Craig and Rev. Ronell Owensby officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. Paran Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of Randy and Sonia Pennington, 811 Antioch Road, Blacksburg.
