Leland Welchel Eaker
 Blacksburg -- Leland Welchel Eaker, 90, of 206 Cherokee Ford Road, passed away Saturday, June 23rd, 2012, at his residence.
 
Born in Blacksburg, Mr. Eaker was the husband of Alma Jolly Eaker of the home and the son of the late Belton and Della Wilson Eaker.  Mr. Eaker retired from Overnite Transportation, fought in the United States Army, and was an active member of the Handyman Ministry while he was able.  He was also a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
 
In addition to his wife of 20 years, Mr. Eaker is survived by a son, Mike Eaker and wife, Judy, of Blacksburg; three step-daughters, Sylvia Vassey of Shelby, NC, Linda DeShields and husband, Carson, of Lyman, and Nancy Greer and husband, Chuck, of Blacksburg; two grandchildren, Amy Henry and husband, Mike, and Kevin Eaker, all of Gaffney; 6 step-grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 9 step-great-grandchildren.
 
Mr. Eaker was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Doris Sutton Eaker; his niece raised in the home, Pat Norman; a brother, Tommy Eaker; two sisters, Edith Clary and Mae Kiser; and a son-in-law, Larry Vassey.
 
The family will receive friends Monday, June 25th, 2012, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Gordon Mortuary.  Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 26th, at 11:00am at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Steve Hicks, Rev. Al McKinney, and Rev. Richard Brown officiating.
