Lemmie Nixsanders Newton

Lemmie Nixsanders Newton, 95 of the Ellenboro community passed away on
Saturday, March 11, 2017 at his home.

He was born in Cleveland County on August 1, 1921 to the late Robert Everett
Newton and Elva Wall Newton. Mr. Newton was severally injured while serving
in the US Army during WWII. He was a farmer and worked for Overnite
Trucking prior to his retirement.

He was Past Master of Hollis Masonic Lodge and Past President of the Thermal
Belt Shrine Club where he worked as a co-coordinator with the Shriners
Children's Hospital. He was a member of Walls Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years,
Willie Louise Wray Newton, whom he married on Valentines Day in 1942; son,
Wray Newton; two sisters, Mattie Martin and Affie Hudson and two brothers,
Velustus Newton and Alvin Newton.

Survivors include a daughter, Beatrice Conard of Shelby; two sons, Lemmie
Newton, Jr. and Jim Newton and wife, Bernice all of Ellenboro; a
daughter-in-law, Patti Newton of Inman, SC; four grandchildren, Tammy
Connell, Gayle Austin, Rick Conard and David Newton; thirteen
great-grandchildren; a special great-great grandchild, Raylan Brown whom
spent much time with Lemmie prior to his passing.; and two brothers, William
Briscoe Newton of Polkville and R.E. Newton of Union Mills.

Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM, Tuesday, Stamey-Tysinger Funeral
Home, Fallston

A graveside service will be at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, at Rose Hill Memorial Park,
Fallston.

Memorials may be to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive,
Shelby, NC 28150 or to the Shriners Children Hospital, 950 West Faris Road,
Greenville, SC 29605.
