Leone Simonton Patterson

Leone Simonton Patterson, 99, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away at Sharon Towers Health Care Facility, Charlotte, NC on August 28, 2016. She was the second of three children born to J. M. Patterson and Roberta Simonton Patterson, and a direct descendant of Arthur Patterson, Sr. who fought in the Revolutionary War Battle of Kings Mountain in 1780.

Leone grew up on West Mountain Street in Kings Mountain. She graduated from Kings Mountain High School in 1933 and from Winthrop Women's College in Rock Hill, SC. Leone was initially employed with Coca Cola in Gastonia before moving to Richmond, VA to work for a children's nonprofit organization. She later returned to Kings Mountain and worked at Winthrop College in Rock Hill. Her last employment before retiring was with the assistant superintendent of the Kings Mountain District Schools Instruction K-12.

She lived with her dear sister Marian, a retired librarian, and her younger brother Malcolm in the home they all grew up in. They were active members of Boyce Memorial Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain. Leone loved dogs, especially Poncho, her family's charismatic black cocker spaniel. She enjoyed telling stories and writing long, interesting, and humorous letters to family and friends. She was an avid reader and loved all sports, especially ACC Basketball. Her favorite passion was pulling for her beloved Tar Heels.

Leone moved to Sharon Towers in Charlotte in 2002 to be nearer many of her friends after Malcolm and Marian passed. There she stayed active and enjoyed a full life. She is survived by friends and second & third generation cousins in and around the Kings Mountain area. Leone leaves behind precious memories with everyone her life touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Boyce Memorial ARP Church, PO Box 1145, Kings Mountain, NC 28086-1145 or Jacob Mauney Memorial Library, 100 S. Piedmont Ave, Kings Mountain, NC 28086 or another charitable organization of your choice.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE: Boyce Memorial ARP Church, Friday, September 9, 2016 11:00 A.M. Rev. Nick Napier, officiating.

VISITATION: Family will speak to friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall of Boyce Memorial ARP Church.
